Nancy English is a long-time LGBT and peace activist. Born and raised in Saginaw, MI Nancy came out in East Lansing in 1974 and finally made the Lansing area her home in the mid 1980's.

"I have always believed it was best not to hide or lie about who I am. Though like many people, I've been hurt by others when I've come out, I have always felt it was best to be honest," says Nancy.

Nancy says that coming out in East Lansing in 1974 was like, "being in Paris in the 1920's where you have very unique and talented people like Alice B. Toklas, Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway and other artists working and socializing. In the mid-1970's in East Lansing and Mt. Pleasant, a mere 60 miles away, you had the women who developed the Lesbian Connection, Goldenrod Distribution and the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. All of these organizations developed to the point where they became international and all are still in existence over 30 years later."

Nancy works at Michigan Equality, loves sports - especially MSU and Detroit Shock women's basketball, and lives with Elaine, her partner of thirteen years in the Lansing area.
